WHY WE FUNDRAISE

The Ivy School is a public charter school that offers a tuition-free Montessori education.  Our mission is to inspire children of diverse backgrounds to be lifelong, independent learners who value responsibility and embody peace.  The Ivy School’s values are to be kind, safe, and responsible.  All schools must fundraise.  For charter schools, fundraising is essential.  Our goal is 100% participation in the fund drive this school year to raise $100,000. That’s just $40/month per Ivy family, or about $1.40 per day.

HOW TO GIVE

Making an old school donation via check or cash works too. Please print out the Donation Form, complete it and return it to the office.  

The fastest way to start giving is to go the donation link on the left side of this page. If you prefer to go “old school” with a check, no problem! Here’s how:

  • Monthly contributions are the best way for the Ivy School to project our income for the year, and being realizing those funds now. Pledge a monthly contribution to The Ivy School by completing the ACH Authorization Form (or by using the Annual Fund Donations link on the left side of this page).
  • Or give a one-time contribution to The Ivy School also through ACH debit or check.

WHY DOES THE IVY SCHOOL HAVE TO FUNDRAISE WHEN WE ARE A PUBLIC CHARTER SCHOOL?

Ideally public education would be well-funded, and costs would be covered by the state.  The reality is that schools must fundraise in order to provide anything beyond the basics, and this is particularly true for charter schools.  According to research by EcoNorthwest, Oregon charter schools receive approximately 60% of what district schools receive; plus, they have additional expenses for facilities and administration.  The Ivy School’s current operating budget for the 2018-2019 school year includes fundraising income of $100,000.

WHAT ABOUT THE FUNDRAISING EFFORTS BY THE IVY SCHOOL PTA?

The Ivy PTA (Parent & Teacher) Association is a 501C Non-Profit Organization whose mission is to serve as a bridge between parents, teachers, and administrators at The Ivy School, and to provide financial and volunteer support for the school community. As members of the national PTA, The Ivy PTA is restricted in how they support the school.  The Ivy School PTA raises approximately $20,000 each year through fundraising events, including: Chinook Books and the Read and Write-a-thon.

WHAT IF MY EMPLOYER HAS A MATCHING GIFT PROGRAM?

Employer matching gift programs are a wonderful way to increase your donation.  Each company’s policy varies a bit, but you can usually find out about your employer’s policy through your Human Resources Department.  Please contact Nikki Jones (nikki.jones@theivyschool.org)  if you need help with securing the matching gift, or if you submit a request to your employer so Liz can ensure that the funds are received.

WHAT IF I AM ALREADY GIVING A MONTHLY DONATION TO THE IVY SCHOOL?

Thank you for your continued support!  If you are already donating monthly to The Ivy School, your donations will continue, unless you turn in a new Donation Form to request a change in your monthly donations.  Your monthly donations will be included as part of the Annual Fund.  In addition, please consider increasing your gift amount annually.

DO YOU WANT ME TO ASK EXTENDED FAMILY MEMBERS OR OTHER IVY SUPPORTERS TO DONATE TO THE IVY SCHOOL ANNUAL FUND?

It would be very much appreciated if you began to spread the word to your extended families and networks.  They can be directed to this page on our website and donate online or go old school and print the Donation Form. 

WILL FAMILIES BE ASKED TO CONTRIBUTE EVERY YEAR?

Yes, we plan to promote The Ivy School Annual Fund every year!  If you elect to contribute monthly through ACH debits or monthly via our website, then your gift will simply continue until you cancel the authorization in writing to The Ivy School for ACH debits, PayPal, or authorize.net as appropriate.

IS MY DONATION TO THE IVY SCHOOL ANNUAL FUND TAX DEDUCTIBLE?

If you itemize deductions on your income taxes, your gift to The Ivy School Annual Fund is tax deductible because we are a nonprofit 501c3 organization, and our tax identification number is 20-4681686.  We will send donors to The Ivy School Annual Fund an acknowledgment each January with the amount donated through one time or monthly donations.
