Fall Conferences Are Here!

Parent/Teacher conferences are from October 28th thru October 31st. Conferences are an integral piece of the Montessori curriculum at The Ivy School and a commitment to the program as outlined in the Parent Contract.  We are working toward 100% attendance in the hopes that all families have the opportunity to meet with their child’s teacher and support their child as they grow as a learner at The Ivy School

Please contact your Lead Teacher if you have not received information in regards to conference sign up.

Read-a-thon: Reading Has Begun!

We are two days into the reading period and already we are seeing a flood of raffle tickets being turned in, which means Ivy students are very busy reading!  Students can continue to log their reading minutes through November 7th.  Each class that reads over 6,000 minutes will be treated to an ice cream party!  Remember to keep turning in those raffle tickets for every 30 minutes read so we can keep track of how each classroom is doing.  Those raffle tickets also earn students a chance to win a prize in our first raffle drawing on November 5th!  Raffle tickets are turned in to your child’s teacher.

You can continue to collect pledges throughout the reading period, so if there are a few more people you’ve been meaning to ask to sponsor your student, it’s not too late!  No amount is too small and every pledge counts!  All sponsorship pledges are tax deductible.

If you need extra reading logs, raffle tickets, or donation forms for tax deductions, you can find them on the PTA page of the Ivy website or pick up extra copies outside the office at both campuses. Thank you for supporting The Ivy School and our student readers!!!!

Please contact JacQueline if you are interested in helping with the Read-a-Thon or if you have any questions.

Happy Reading!!!!

Smartphone Recycling Drive!

Do you have old smartphones sitting around collecting dust? Drop them off at Ivy for our Smartphone Recycling Drive! For the next 2 weeks, we will have boxes out to collect phones at both campuses. Our Smartphone drive will help The Ivy School hostCompass Green Project at both of our campuses next month! Compass Green Project operates an 18-foot mobile greenhouse and tours the country to teach children about sustainable gardening and farming. They will be giving a gardening book and a jar of honey to the students in each grade that collect the most phones!  Look for the donation boxes at Prescott and Morris. Remember to ask family members and friends if they have old phones that they’d like to recycle!

Contact Anna Doogan with any questions.

Monster Bowl A Screaming Success!!!!

Thank you to all the fabulous, fun, and in some cases, frightening families who came to Saturday’s Monster Bowl!  With well over 175 people in attendance, the Ivy PTA raised $875 that we can use to support our school. WOW!!!  It was such a blast to see all the MARVELOUS costumes and to see everyone having such a great time bowling, enjoying the games, or just spending time together.  No matter the score, everyone was a winner!

Fall Greetings From The Outdoors Committee

This past month we were lucky to receive a donation from Portland Nursery in plants and seeds for both of our campuses.  We got them planted just in time to get watered in really, really well by our Portland rain. Prescott students planted shade loving edibles on the Eastside of the building and Morris students added new edibles to their outdoor garden plot.  Both campuses received a large amount of seeds as well. Matthew will be putting the seeds to good use at Morris.  At Prescott, we don’t have a dedicated garden teacher but these seeds are available for teachers, a gardening enrichment class in winter or spring, and/or parent volunteers who wish to help maintain the garden beds.  Each classroom has a garden bed available for use on the sunnier Westside of the building!

Last Friday we also had fresh playground bark chips blown in at Prescott.  It looks great and will greatly improve playground safety and decrease mud.

We also now have a grant team assembled and working away at grant applications to help improve outdoor spaces at both campuses.  Big thanks to all the parents who have volunteered to take this on. We appreciate your hard work!  If you have an interest in all things outdoors, please contact Muriah or Becky.

Morris Work Party

On Saturday, November 8th, from 10:30am until 2:30pm, the Morris Campus will be hosting a GIANT work party to prepare the outdoor area for Winter.

We will be:

  1. Constructing a Greenhouse
  2. Digging and Planting out a Rain Garden
  3. Planting trees along the North fence line

Please mark you calendars and come out and join the party!!!!  The more the merrier.

Ivy Yearbook Wants Your Photos!

The Ivy Yearbook Committee would love to have your pictures of the wonderful Ivy community at activities and events.  You can start submitting now while they’re still fresh on your camera or phone and in your mind.  We will be collecting them on the same site as you place your yearbook orders, but you don’t have to order a yearbook to submit photos.

If you haven’t already done this, create an account by going to TreeRing.com and enter our school’s passcode: 1014023370593549.  Once logged in, click on the Photos tab at the top of the page and click on “Add Photos”.  We’ve created various folders to help us keep things organized (including one for each classroom) or you can drop the photos in the “General” folder.  We’ll monitor the folders and move the photos to a mirror set of Editors Only folders to help preserve privacy so don’t worry if your photos disappear from the Community folders.

We can’t wait to see all the great pics of the Swifts, Camp Wi-Ne-Ma, Monster Bowling, International Children’s Day, and more.  Thanks for sharing!
