Frequently Asked Questions about the new building

Will there be a kindergarten? If so, when will we know?
We are considering adding classrooms at different age levels. A decision will be made in the next few weeks.

A lot of rooms are small; how do we plan to fit our current classes in them?
Our current classroom furniture and students will fit into the the Interstate rooms. We’re exploring different options to open up the Interstate classrooms.

Are we planning any renovations? Will we be removing walls?
We are not planning to renovate for the upcoming school year. Only minor cosmetic changes are planned thus far.

Is safety an issue at Patton Park?
Cleaning up needles, etc.? Also I’m concerned about air quality due to I5 and truck traffic. Do you have any data about the air quality? We are currently establishing a relationship with Patton Park and will work closely with them to make sure the Park is a safe place for our community. Our safety team is also considering these topics while building our Safety Plan.

Are there any thoughts around reconfiguring the classroom age/grade splits?
Moving to 1-2, 3-4, 5-6, 7-8? We have no plans to change the classroom configurations. The three year cycle is essential to the Montessori Method.

There’s no vehicle area; how do you see drop-off working?
Admin is currently working on a plan for pick up and drop off. As soon as we come up with a plan we will communicate to families via email and Bloomz.

Portland maps shows 21,000 sf. Your presentation showed only 13,000. Which number is correct?
21,543 sf.

What does the new building mean for future growth of the student body, faculty, and staff? How many of each of these do we currently have? How many do we plan to have in 1, 3, or 5 years?
Currently we have four Lower and Upper Elementary classrooms and one Middle school classroom. Ivy is currently working on a 5 year plan that will include adding a preschool (Children’s House) and additional middle school classrooms.

I’d like to know more about the outdoor spaces. Details?
Currently there is a large, paved fenced in courtyard and medium sized bark chip play area. An outdoor committee consisting of staff and parents has been formed to plan and implement improvements. More info coming soon!
